Kim Looks to Remain Undefeated at UFC 125
On January 1, 2011, undefeated Dong Hyun “Stun Gun” Kim (13-0-1, 1 NC MMA, 4-0, 1 NC UFC) will square off against the Stockton California brawler and TUF winner Nate Diaz (13-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) at UFC 125 held at MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two Welterweights will battle on the televised portion of the PPV event.
Kim has never lost a bout, however he does have one fight that ended in a draw and a no contest that was initially a decision loss to Karo Parisian. The fight was ruled a no-contest when the Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Parisian and ruled the bout a no-contest. The NSAC ruling kept Kim’s unbeaten streak alive.
Stun Gun enters the cage riding a back-to-back decision victory streak. Additionally, he only fought once in 2010. At UFC 114 in May, Kim was able to secure a victory against TUF winner Amir Sadollah. Prior to his bout with Sadollah, Kim last appeared in the Octagon at UFC 100 in July 2009 where he beat T.J Grant. In fact, 4 of the 5 fights Kim has in the UFC have ended via decision. His only stoppage was when Kim made his debut in 2008 at UFC 84 where he was able to TKO Jason Tan in the third round.
Kim’s opponent, Nate Diaz is new to the Welterweight division and has been destroying his opponents since his arrival. Diaz had his way with Marcus Davis in Boston at UFC 118 where he battered and displayed superior boxing before submitted Davis via guillotine. Prior to Diaz’s personal Boston Massacre, he made his UFC Welterweight debut by landing heavy hands on Rory Markham. Diaz could cause problems for Kim and is a legitimate threat to Kim’s undefeated record
Diaz by far will be the toughest challenge for Kim since entering the UFC. Diaz will bring better hands and a Jiu Jitsu arsenal that none of Kim’s previous UFC opponents possessed. It is safe to say that Kim will have his hands full on New Year’s Day.
