Anthony Pettis Gets Clay Guida Next
The last WEC champion, Anthony Pettis has been targeted to face Clay Guida last this year at either UFC 130 or 131. The news comes after Pettis choose not to wait around for the rematch between current UFC champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard to take place.
The news was first reported by Heavy.com, who was informed of the bout by sources close to the bout.
Guida (28-11) is coming off an impressive submission victory at UFC 125 over Japanese star Takanori Gomi. Known for his unlimited gas tank that has garnered such names as the energizer bunny, Guida has become a huge fan favorite.
Pettis (13-1) is coming over his unanimous decision victory over Ben Henderson at the final WEC event (WEC 53) to capture the WEC lightweight title. He is riding a four fight win streak and became an overnight sensation after using the cage to leap off and “showtime” kick Henderson flush on the chin.
This matchup is very intriguing but will the WEC lightweight strip be on the line and does the winner get the next title shot?
Hopefully these questions will be answered when the fight becomes official by the UFC.
