Kenny Florian Expected to Face Nunes at UFC 131
While former UFC Lightweight contender Kenny “Ken-Flo” Florian had dropped hints of making a move down to 145, many wondered if Kenny would actually do it. Any doubts of that have now been erased as Florian announced he will be taking on Diego Nunes at UFC 131 in his Featherweight Debut. Florian made the announcement on ESPN MMA Live.
With the drop to featherweight, Kenny Florian will mark his 4th different weight class since joining the UFC. After competing on The Ultimate Fighter season 1 as a Middleweight, Florian made his first move, going 2-0 as a Welterweight. He would then go on to make his Lightweight debut against Sam Stout. Florian went 9-3 in the UFC’s Lightweight Division, failing to capture the UFC Lightweight Championship on two separate occasions, losing to Sean Sherk and BJ Penn.
Diego Nunes, who defeated former WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Brown at UFC 125, will look to add another name to his impressive resume, and move himself closer to a possible title shot. Nunes carries with him a three-fight win streak, having only dropped one fight in his career, losing a decision to LC Davis at WEC: Aldo vs Faber.
UFC 131 is expected to take place at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on June 11th.
