Gilbert Melendez: I Am a Fighter [Video]
Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez will make his return to the cage this weekend after a nearly a full year layoff. Melendez last defended his lightweight title against Shinya Aoki at Strikeforce: Nashville in April of 2010 where he dominated the submission specialist and DREAM lightweight champion.
Melendez will be taking on the very tough Japanese fighter Tatsuya Kawajiri who is coming off a unanimous decision victory over the former Strikeforce Champion Josh Thomson at Dynamite 2010! Melendez and Kawajiri have fought before back in 2006 in Pride with Melendez winning a unanimous decision. Their rematch will be the co-main event on the card this Saturday behind the welterweight title fight between Melendez’s training partner, Nick Diaz and Paul Daley.
