Season Four Tournament Finals Begin this Week for Bellator
The successful fourth season for Bellator Fighting Championship is nearing its completion, having only three events left. The season four tournaments have also reached the end and the four final bouts will place out over the remaining events.
The promotions first season being televised on MTV2 has brought a new audience, consistently pulling in 150k to 200k average viewers. While that might not seem like a lot when compared to others it’s a drastic improvement to the viewing difficulties of season’s past.
Bellator held four tournaments this season in the welterweight division, lightweight division, featherweight and their inaugural light heavyweight division. The winners of each tournament will have earned themselves a shot at the division champions, with the exception of the light heavyweight tournament. The winner of that tournament will be crowned the first ever Bellator light heavyweight champion.
These tournaments hold a lot at stake for the fighters as it’s the only way they can fight for the title in Bellator’s current format. Here is a look at the four final matchups, when they will take place and what’s at stake.
Bellator 43
Welterweight Tournament: Rick Hawn (11-0) vs. Jay Heiron (21-4) – The winner earns a shot at the welterweight title held by Ben Askren (8-0)
Bellator 44
Lightweight Tournament: Patricky Freire (9-1) vs. Michael Chandler (7-0) – The winner earns a shot at the lightweight title held by Eddie Alvarez (22-2)
Bellator 45
Featherweight Tournament: Patricio Freire (16-1) vs. Daniel Straus (16-3) – The winner earns a shot at the featherweight title held by Joe Warren (7-1)
Light Heavyweight Tournament [Title Fight]: Richard Hale (17-3-1) vs. Christian M.Pumbu (17-3-1) – The winner is crowned the first ever Bellator light heavyweight champion.
