A Look at the Inaugural Bellator Summer Series

Riding the high from a very successful season four, Bellator Fighting Championship will debut a summer series this weekend to bridge season four to season five. The series will feature three events between now and August and will anchored by a featherweight tournament.

The featherweight tournament will be conducted across the three summer series events, starting with Saturdays Bellator 46. Just like season four, the main cards for the summer series will be televised live on MTV2 at 6pm PT / 9pm ET.

Bellator 46 will take place from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida with a nine fight card. The main card will feature the opening round of the eight man featherweight tournament. Notable fighters in the tournament are recently signed Marlon Sandro and the season two lightweight tournament winner Pat Curran, who is dropping weight for a chance at Joe Warren’s featherweight title.

Featherweight bout: Alexandre Bezerra vs. Matt McCook
Heavyweight bout: Tony Johnson Jr. vs. Derrick Lewis
Women’s (125) lbs. bout: Jessica Aguilar vs. Carla Esparza
Middleweight bout: Moyses Gabin vs. David Baggett

The middle event of the summer series will be Bellator 47 which will take place on July 23^rd from the Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario. The event will be the promotions first event held in Canada and will feature a featherweight title fight between, as Joe Warren the make his first title defense against last season featherweight tournament winner, Patricio Freire.

Along with the title fight the semifinal round of the summer series featherweight tournament will also take place at Bellator 47. The remaining main bouts on the card will be added in the coming weeks.

The final event of the “summer series” will be Bellator 48, which will take place from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on August 20^th. The featherweight tournament finale will headline the event and crown the tournament winner that will move on to face whoever wins between Joe Warren and Patricio Freire at Bellator 47. As the event draws near the remaining main card bouts as well as the local card will begin to be filling.
