Injuries Create Donald Cerrone vs. Charles Oliveira at UFC on Versus 5

Every now and then an injury forces a matchup to become even more exciting on paper then its original. Thus is the case with the John Makdessi vs. Paul Taylor turn Donald Cerrone vs. Charles Oliveira bout at UFC on Versus 5. Cerrone stepped in for the injured Makdessi to face Taylor, until days later Taylor himself withdrew due to injury and later replaced by Oliveira.

Both fighters are coming off exciting fights and look to continue their climb up the lightweight division and get one step closer to a shot at the belt. Donald Cerrone (15-3) looks to bring his UFC record to 3-0 when he faces the fast and submission savvy Charles Oliveira (14-1, 1nc) on what will most likely be bumped into a main card slot.

Cerrone should play the slight favorite in this fight with his crisp and dangerous striking, paired with effective leg kicks may prove to slow the pace of Oliveira. Both fighters are submission machines on the ground with the slight edge going to Oliveira. The fight is very evenly matched but with camp Greg Jackson in Cerrone’s corner and the experience, you’d have to give the slight advantage  in Cerrone’s favor.

This fight will be everything MMA fan drools over and promise some serious fireworks, plus those that wanted to see John Makdessi vs. Paul Taylor will now likely get their wish at a later date.
