Bellator 50 Results: Four Middleweights move on

Following the welterweights kicking the Bellator season five off last week, it’s the middleweights turn to shine at Bellator 50. Eight men enter the Bellator cage for the quarterfinal round of the promotions third middleweight tournament. The tournament field includes three of the four fighters who participated in the past season tournament finals.

Main Card:

185 lbs. Quarterfinal bout: Sam Alvey vs. Vitor Vianna

Alvey kept the fight standing in round one to win the striking; Vianna came back in round two with multiple takedowns. The fight came down to the final round which was the closet of the fight with back and forth action between the two. Vianna displayed his best striking of the fight towards the end of the round, which likely sealed the deal for him.

185 lbs. Quarterfinal bout: Zelg Galesic vs. Alexander Shlemenko

Shlemenko was on a mission to get another shot at the Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard and he made quick work of the experienced Zelg Galesic.

185 lbs. Quarterfinal bout: Victor O’Donnell vs. Brian Rogers

Rogers came out fast against O’Donnell and 1:56 into the opening round the fight was over. The ending was controversial as Rogers rocked O’Donnell with a head kick and a flurry of punches dropped him. Rogers rushed in with hammerfists and the referee stopped the fight even though O’Donnell was still defending himself.

185 lbs. Quarterfinal bout: Jared Hess vs. Bryan Baker

It started out a little iffy for Baker who escaped a first round submission attempt to go on and take control of the fight. Hess slowed in round two and in round three, Baker secured a takedown and from back mount he finished the fight.

The middleweight tournament Semifinal round will be Brian Rogers vs. Alexander Shlemenko and Bryan Baker vs. Vitor Vianna.
