UFC Live 6 Cruz vs. Johnson Main Card Results

| October 1, 2011 | Reply

The UFC Live 6: Cruz vs. Johnson main card on Versus looked to keep the pace set by the prelims on Facebook earlier. Anchored by the first title fight on Versus and only the second title fight to be shown on free TV, the other being Rampage Jackson vs. Dan Henderson at UFC 75.

The main card saw the night’s only two decisions but neither was a boring fight. All four of the fights on the main card delivered to the fans and in case you missed it, make sure you catch a replay but until then, here are the results.

155 lbs.: Matt Wiman defeated Mac Danzig by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

  • What an intense pace these two went at for 15 minutes. Wiman seemed to get the better of the striking but they were pretty even on the grappling. Wiman got a late takedown and dropped several nasty elbows that ugly’d up Danzig’s forehead and likely sealed the fight for him.

170 lbs.: Anthony Johnson defeated Charlie Brenneman by 1st rd. TKO

  • Johnson stuffed the first takedown attempt and was in control from that point. Brenneman ate a lot of shots on the ground and once he got up Johnson made him pay. Brenneman was super staggered and just trying to get out-of-the-way when Johnson landed a big head kick that had the referee stopping the fight before Brenneman had hit the canvas. Problem was Brenneman wasn’t out and actually stopped his fall with his elbows.

265 lbs.: Stefan Struve defeated Pat Barry by 2nd rd. submission (Triangle Choke)

  • All stand up in the opening round as the two traded kicks back and forth. Struve pulled guard in round two and looked to get a guillotine but it wasn’t there so he transitioned to a triangle choke. Barry easily picked up Struve and slammed him down only to have the choke sink in deeper and is forced to tap.

135 lbs.: Dominick Cruz defeated Demetrious Johnson by Unanimous Decision (50-45, 49-46, 50-45)

  • Crazy pace, super fast strikes and takedowns was the name of the game in the main event. Both fighters were going full speed the whole 25 minutes and moving as if on fast forward but it was only the champ that was scoring the takedowns. Every round Cruz scored at least one takedown and though the challenger was holding his own standing, he was clearly losing the fight on the ground. An entertaining fight, but also a one-sided fight.
