The UFC on FX 1 Card is Filling up Quickly
The UFC announced three fights today for their January 20th inaugural UFC on FX event from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The card will be headlined by a lightweight bout between Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller, with the undercard expected to air on Fuel TV.
Mike Brown (25-8) vs. Vagner Rocha (7-2)
After getting his first win in the Octagon at UFC 133, Brown looks to start a streak and possible get back to the form that won him the WEC featherweight championship. Including his title fight lose to Jose Aldo, Brown has won just three times in seven fights. Rocha is also coming off his first UFC win and will be dropping down from lightweight for the first time.
Jorge Rivera (19-9 MMA) vs. Eric Schafer (12-6-2)
Coming off back to back losses it was thought that Rivera would retire from the sport he’s been in for over ten years. That thought was wrong though and Rivera will take on “Red” Schafer, who has lost his last three fights inside the Octagon. Each fighter has had some notable wins in the UFC but another defeat from either of these two is not recommended.
Ryan Jimmo (16-1) vs. Karlos Vemola (8-2)
After winning his 16th consecutive fight at October’s MFC 31, Ryan Jimmo finally gets his chance to showcase his skills in the big show. Jimmo had told MMAValor.com that he expected to be signed by the promotion if he came out of his fight with Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou on the winning side. He won a unanimous decision and today it became official, the “Big Deal” is in the UFC. He’ll have a big test against the former heavyweight Karlos Vemola who has just gone 1-2 in his three UFC bouts.
Jimmo’s now former boss Mark Pavelich wished his former light heavyweight champion good luck, saying via twitter, “Way to go @RyanJimmo you’re the only one that did it right and played it straight I will always be in your corner.”
