The UFC welcomes back Miguel Torres
After a controversial tweet, Miguel Torres found himself on the unemployment line, being cut by the UFC. Less than a month later Torres now finds himself back into the UFC following actions taken by himself to get himself in the better graces of the UFC brass.
Coming on the heels of a statement made by Rashad Evans at the UFC on Fox 2 press conference, Miguel made the controversial “rape tweet” on his Twitter account and was subsequently cut after Dana White found out about the incident. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Dana White expressed his distaste for the comment by Torres.
“There’s absolutely nothing I could say to make any sense of that. And the fact that he even thinks that’s funny or that’s a joke, it disturbs me. It bothers me. Again, you’re dealing with a guy that’s a smart guy, that owns his own business, that’s been one of the top fighters in the world forever,” said Dana.
The former WEC Bantamweight spoke with Dana White about the incident on Wednesday and explained the situation, including how he donated and visited several rape crises centers in his the Chicago-area.
Torres was in attendance at the UFC 141 press conference where Dana White told reporters about his reinstatement.
Torres was the long time WEC Bantamweight champion rode a 17 fight win streak overall, and won 5 straight inside the UFC before losing his title Brian Bowles at WEC 42.
After the WEC and UFC merger, Torres went 2-1 inside the promotion, dropping a decision to Demetrious Johnson, but found himself again in the win column with a victory over Nick Pace at UFC 139, just weeks before the controversy started.
Torres didn’t accept any offers from any promotions in the short time he was out of the UFC, and due to his sincerity from his apologies and his donations to rape centers, Torres now finds himself in the only promotion he’s ever wanted to be apart of.
