Up Next for Fabricio Werdum, Mike Russow
Fabricio Werdum showed the MMA world exactly why he asked to re-sign with the UFC when he put on a striking display in his UFC return bout against Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson at UFC 143. Werdum looked like he was as relaxed as he had ever been in MMA competition, as he peppered Nelson with a variety of powerful, and technical strikes that aren’t the norm for a fighter that has a reputation as being one of the best Jiu Jitsu practitioners in MMA, regardless of weight class.
Strikeforce is throwing their heavyweight division in the garbage, and now the Strikeforce heavyweights are making their way over to the UFC, and having great success thus far, by going 4-0 in their UFC import debuts. Werdum is a part of that statistic, along with Alistair Overeem, who is next fighting for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 146 against Junior Dos Santos, Lavar Johnson, who KO’d Joey Beltran, and most recently Shawn Jordan, who pounded out Oli Thompson at the UFC on FX 2: Sydney event.
Fabricio looks to make it two in a row, as he has been scheduled to face Mike Russow on the fight card for the upcoming UFC 147 event. Russow is coming off of a victory over John-Olav Einemo at the UFC on Fox 2: Evans vs. Davis event, and is now on an eleven fight win streak heading into his bout with Werdum. With Russow’s current professional MMA record standing at 16-1, it should make this fight an interesting contrast in styles, and also a firm test for the Strikeforce imports, by taking on one of the UFC’s top new heavyweight prospects.
UFC 147 is scheduled for June 16th, in most likely Sao Paulo, Brazil.
