Maiquel Falcao wins Tournament, title shot at Bellator 69
As Bellator’s sixth season is coming to an end, Bellator 69 featured the tournament final in the middleweight division between Maiquel Falcao and Andreas Spang. The winner would be crowned the season six tournament champion, given an over-sized check for $100,000 and a spot against Alexander Shlemenko for the vacant middleweight title.
In the opening round, Spang hurt Falcao early on but the Brazilian would hang tough, recover and turn things around after a long stoppage due to an illegal knee from Falcao. A point was deducted for the knee but from that point on it was all Falcao, who turned the fight into a clinch game with little to no answer from Spang. Though Falcao was unable to finish off the swede, there were several points in both rounds two and three that the referee could have easily stepped in and ended the fight
Even would the point deduction the judges would see the fight in favor of Falcao unanimously and he’ll now face Shlemenko for the vacant belt at a later date.
Bellator 69 took place at the L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana and aired on MTV2 and Spike.com.
