Mike Chiesa TUF Live Finale 004Ultimate Fighter 15 winner Michael Chiesa was looking to improve to 10-0 in front of the fans in his home state of Washington at last night’s UFC on FOX 8. His opponent was the veteran Jorge Masvidal, who was a serious step up in competition for Chiesa.

Things were looking promising from Michael Chiesa early on as he was showing a much improved striking game. Twice during the first Chiesa rocked Masvidal and had a golden opportunity to finish the fight during one of those occasions. The veteran gutted things out though and ended the round strong by reminding Chiesa that he was the striker of the bunch.

Michael Chiesa opened the round with a takedown but eventually found himself defending a guillotine. Once back to their feet Masvidal began blasting Chiesa with both his hands and feet. The fight returned to the canvas when Masvidal caught the leg of Chiesa then tried to be a little too fancy. With Masvidal holding top position Chiesa looked to get up but ate some big ground and pound. Chiesa tries to escape but ends up giving Masvidal even better position and ultimately the choke that would finish the fight.

Obviously upset with his first career loss and only the second career submission by Masvidal, Michael Chiesa took a page out of the Forrest Griffin playbook and stormed out of the Octagon. Masvidal earns his first UFC win (1-1 overall) and Chiesa drops to 2-1

My brain child is MMAValor, something I had wanted to do for a long time and finally it’s here. Been an MMA fan since TUF season one (play catch up all the time) and the obsession started to grow like a weed and as the sport grows so does the love for the sport. I’m a jack of all trades, a very organized person that rides an emotional roller coaster daily.

  1. Was a last second buzzer beating submission; nice move. Chiesa will be back, he’s a good fighter and a winner. He wouldn’t have won TUF if he wasn’t a tough and mentally strong guy.
