The final UFC of the 2011 year is taking place tonight from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with UFC 141. Headlined by a heavyweight fight between the former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar against the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem. Tonight’s preliminary action can be seen on Facebook and Spike TV, while the main event will air on PPV.
Today is the day, UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem to end the 2011 year with a BANG! The year has been great to not only the UFC but MMA overall and on the day before New Year’s Eve fans are treated to a solid card headlined by the two massive heavyweights. The winner of the main event will most likely be the next in line for the new UFC heavyweight champion, Junior Dos Santos.
Coming off the Strikeforce grand prix event last week that saw very few fighters receiving medical suspensions, every single on the UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou card was given some form of mandatory suspensions. The majority of the competitors received a very small mandatory 7-day suspension but some of the suspensions did climb as high as 60 days.
Battle of the Bayou sounds more like something out of the civil war history book then a UFC event but nevertheless, tomorrows UFC Fight Night 25 dawns the name. The UFC returns to the big easy and the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana for the first time in over nine years. The free card will air live on Spike TV, with the undercard streaming on Facebook.
Does anyone else remember when the UFC wasn’t allowed to hold events anywhere EXCEPT the Deep South? Probably not. Regardless, the UFC returns to Louisiana for a Fight Night full of competitive bouts.
