The UFC is finally back in action with some late morning / early afternoon action today live from the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. It’s been over a month since the UFC last held an event, though to many it felt like forever. The preliminary card for UFC on Fuel TV: Gustafsson vs. Silva will begin at 9:30am PT / 12:30pm ET with six bouts, leading into the six bout main card beginning at 12pm PT / 3pm ET on Fuel TV.
Ok playtime it over! The UFC is back and we’re dusting off the predictions desk to once again bring you a full fight card of predictions. Saturday’s UFC on FUEL TV 2: Gustafsson vs. Silva will take place in Sweden in the first time in the promotions history. Headlining the card will be Sweden’s own Alexander Gustafsson in a light heavyweight showdown against Thiago Silva.
The UFC invades my international vacation spot of Sweden for the first time, and brings a pile of great fights to the table. Sweden’s greatest MMA export will take a step up in competition in his homeland, as Alexander Gustafsson faces Brazilian monster Thiago Silva in a defining moment in both men’s careers.
For a moment there Thiago Alves looked to be another victim of the dreaded GSP curse. Playing the role of the victim in three of his last four fights including the title shot, the “Pitbull” had to make a statement against UFC new comer Papy “Makambo” Abedi at UFC 138 last Saturday night. Starting off by not making weight (again) was a another step in the wrong direction by Alves. The Dolce Diet devotee had no problem making weight on his second attempt though, allowing this fight to be contested at Welterweight as planned.
The UFC 138 undercard kicked off early on Facebook and then continued on with the main card, live in the UK and Canada. Those of us in the US will have to wait to watch in on Spike TV on the ever popular tape delay.
Traveling across the pond again to entertain the always loyal and fight loving fans of England; UFC 138 is live tomorrow night (morning) from the LG Arena in Birmingham. Headlined by a middleweight contender tilt which many are calling for the winner to receive a title shot, the international card also showcases some of Europe’s best fighters, seasoned veterans and one very amped Ultimate Fighter contestant, WOOOOOOOO!
It’s fight week again which can only mean one thing, bold predictions time! UFC 138 is one of those cards that raise the eyebrows of fans for the wrong reasons. Sporting a card that will look better in person than on paper, the undercard will stream on Facebook while the main card will be shown via tape delay in the states on Spike TV.
All but one of the 20 fighters on Saturdays UFC 138 card made weight today and surprise, surprise it was Thiago Alves who came in heavy. Now before you pop a gasket over Alves missing weight yet again, he was just a single one past the 171 lbs non-title welterweight limit. He was given one hour to get rid of that pesky pound and step back on the scale.
