Jorge Masvidal Returns To Strikeforce

Recently, it was announced that Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (20-6) will be making his return to the cage next month under the Strikeforce banner. Masvidal made a name for himself through YouTube.com when he was featured in a homemade video in which he fought Kimbo Slice protégé “Ray”. That video has since garnered nearly three-quarters of a millions views.

Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva Breakdown

On Saturday, February 12, 2011, East Rutherford, New Jersey will be the home for Strikeforce’s next card. Live from the IZOD Center, Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva will mark the beginning of the heavily anticipated Heavyweight Grand Prix. For months, people have been discussing the pros and cons of this historical event and much buzz has been created around it. Strikeforce Binding up Loose Ends

In a last-minute wrap up of the year, the major fight promotion Strikeforce extended the contracts for multiple years on two of their biggest fan draws. Scott Croker wants to make 2011 a bigger year for Americas 2nd largest MMA organization, and he has plans for all of his top fighters. Robbie Lawler (18-6 MMA) and Nick Diaz (23-7 MMA) will continue to grace the cage with their excellent displays of striking on Showtime and on CBS if the contract continues.

Strikeforce set to return home October 9 with tournament

Stikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced earlier this week that the promotion would return home to San Jose, California for an October 9th event. The event will be televised on Showtime and will feature the organization’s middleweight grand prix. The event will take place at the HP Pavilion, which last witnessed Fedor vs. Werdum on June 26.

Details of the tournament are still being worked out regarding the format and who will be participating. The format will either be a same-night four man tourney, or an eight man bracket completed over the course of two events. Which direction they go in will likely hinge on the California State Athletic Commission and whether they approve an eight man format. Read the rest of this entry »
