As first mentioned here by Scott Coker, Strikeforce has decided to move into a different direction with Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal after his friend Bobalu Sobral defeated Robbie Lawler. News came out today from MMAFighting of Lawal (7-0) likely defending his light heavyweight title against Rafael Cavalcante (9-2) in Houston August 21 as part of the night main event.
Following Sobral’s victory over Lawler at Strikeforce: LA he had earned himself a title shot against Lawal but he immediately talked down at a possible title fight, insisting there were better fights out there for him the following week, Strikeforce seemed to turn its attention to a possible matchup between Sobral and Dan Henderson instead of Lawal.
Cavalcante will be taking a step up in opponents when he faces Lawal but with only seven fights as a professional to Cavalcante’s 11, experience will be on the challengers side. Lawal will be making his frist title defence after defeating Gegard Mousasi in April by unanimous decision.
About the Author (Author Profile)My brain child is MMAValor, something I had wanted to do for a long time and finally it’s here. Been an MMA fan since TUF season one (play catch up all the time) and the obsession started to grow like a weed and as the sport grows so does the love for the sport. I’m a jack of all trades, a very organized person that rides an emotional roller coaster daily.
