UFC 121 adds Gonzaga vs Schuab

UFC 121 has been adding several fights the last few days including a heavyweight slugfest between two large names. This card is shaping up to be one of the biggest most stacked UFC events of the year and could pull in the largest PPV buys of the year. Gabriel Gonzaga (11-5 MMA) is set to fight a rising star in Brendan Schuab (6-1 MMA) after his impressive display of striking against Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 116.

Gonzaga possesses a real grappling and submission threat to the ex NFL star in Schuab. Gonzaga is also a strong striker and is most known for his head kick KO over Mirco Cro Cop. Gonzaga is trying to combat some tough UFC losses and string together some wins. He has lost to some of the best in the world and knows he will need a win here to get him back on track. Shane Carwin (Brendan’s training partner) was in serious trouble when fighting Gonzaga before he landed a KO punch, and I’m sure Gonzaga will be fighting smarter come UFC 121. Look for Gonzaga to stay out of range with kicks and using his grappling and submissions skills to win this fight

Brendan Schuab is on a serious tear, and this is a great step up in competition for him. His striking has always had a lot of power but recently (his fight with Chris at UFC 116) his boxing was extremely crisp and accurate. He seems to have been working his takedown defense and boxing ever since his debut after the Ultimate fighter and his loss to Roy Nelson seemed to awaken a sleeping giant in his training. Look for him to come out fast and trying to stuff all Gonzaga’s takedowns and put it on him with some power punches, or even corner him with the clinch and punches a la Mir vs. Carwin.

Both want this win bad and both posses the skill to finish this fight fast. This card looks amazing so far and I am sure this will be one of the most exciting fights of the night!
