UFC 129 will be one massive event

When the UFC announced that UFC 129 would be held at the Rogers Centre (formerly the Sky Dome) everyone knew the event would break the UFC attendance record. UFC officials had originally planned for the Rogers Centre to be configured to hold 42,000 fans, nearly 20,000 more than the current record of 23,152 from UFC 124 which was also in Canada.

Tickets for UFC 129 went on pre-sale to UFC Fight Club members on Thursday February 10th, selling nearly all of the 42,000 tickets. The UFC opened up more seating/tickets for the next day’s UFC newsletter subscriber pre-sale and then completely sold out when tickets went on sale to the general public on Saturday. When it was all said and done UFC officials had upped the number of seats to the Rogers Centre concert maximum of 55,000.

The 55,000 tickets sold is nearly doubles the previous record and will bring in a gate of $10+ million to easily break the previous record of $5.4 million, which happened at UFC 66 in Las Vegas. The Rogers Centre has been host to some of the top sporting events in the world and UFC 129 has surpassed nearly all of them.

Along with UFC 129 which takes place April 30th, the UFC Fan Expo will be at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto on April 29th and 30th and tickets are still available for this at www.ufcfanexpo.com.
