MMA Fighter Rankings for September 2011

After the month of July offered little movement in the rankings, August saw several fighters in the top five put their record on the line. The action resulted in four fighters moving down in the ranking, two of them fell completely out of the top five. Conversely, two fighters moved up in the ranks while two fighters “knocking on the door” got called up to the top five.

August saw the middleweight king Anderson Silva retain his title by defeating Yushin Okami in UFC Rio. Also on the card and coming out victorious was the former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua. Rashad Evans, Chad Mendes and Joseph Benavides also secured in August.

Lightweight Clay Guida makes his debut in the top five following Jim Miller one-sided loss to Ben Henderson. Speaking of Henderson, his big win kept him “knocking on the door” and possibly one win away from the top five.

September will have another group of fighter (seven) from the rankings step into the cage, including two champions in Jon Jones and Ronaldo Souza. Former champions Jake Shields, Rampage Jackson and Josh Barnett will also be in action this month as they look to advance their position in the ranks.
