Last nights Bellator 41 was one of the most exciting nights to date for the season four featherweight tournament, pairing fighters in semifinal fights eliminating the field down to two very talented fighters on the track to face the self-proclaimed “baddest man on the planet” Joe Warren. Two fantastic fights went to the third round where both fighters finished their opponents, one with a devastating submission the other a devastating knock out.

Daniel Straus (16-3 MMA) is on a very impressive 12 fight winning streak and took some time out after the press conference to talk with MMA Valor about the fights and his upcoming one with Freire. When asked his thoughts on the questionable Joe Warren outcome he agreed with the majority of fighters who I talked to that thought the 30-27 was questionable.  Straus thought that Warren won the third but didn’t necessarily think he won the fight.

Straus mentioned that he felt he was the underdog in his upcoming fight with Freire and that he has very good Jiu Jitsu, heavy hands and that it’s going to be a very dangerous fight every where it goes. His plan of attack will be nothing straying off the path he has been on for quite some time, to beat him with heart and the drive to win at all costs.

Both featherweight fighters are very large for the 145 lb division, they both have devastating strikes, and they both have an advantage in the grappling department. Freire has the better Jiu Jitsu, and Straus with the better wrestling and control. The fight promoters love to say “styles make fights” and this will be a prime example and one of the potential best fights in all of Bellator this season.

Straus is a very classy and humble fighter and he never gave himself a lot of credit which he clearly deserves. He takes an odd approach to his fights, praising decision wins over stoppages and always is in there to shock the favorite. He is a great example of how personal drive can make you accomplish a lot in mixed martial arts, and besides some bruised ribs which he hope will heal quickly his fight with Freire should be an absolute war.
