UFC Fight Night 33 Bold Picks

UFC Fight Night 33 Main EventThe UFC returns to the land down under this weekend with the UFC Fight Night 33.

The promotions third to last event of 2013 will be headlined by a five round (not that it will last that long) main event between heavyweights Mark Hunt and Antonio Silva. While the New Zealander (Hunt) is the main attraction, the rest of the UFC Fight Night 33 card is filled with local talent, both new & familiar faces.

Back to the headliner though, fan favorite Mark Hunt was on the doorsteps of an improbable title run but after losing to the former champion Junior Dos Santos looks to jumpstart a brand new title run. His opponent is also coming off an improbable run that actually earned him a title shot earlier this year against Cain Velasquez. For the second time in the span of a year Silva was knockout by Velasquez and he too not finds himself looking to rebound. Both fighters hit like a mack truck but its the ground game that could decide this bout. Silva is a BJJ Black Belt and despite only having three career wins by submission he’ll hold a tremendous advantage on the ground over Hunt and should exploit that early and often.

The night’s co-main event might be the most interesting fight on the UFC Fight Night 33 card as light heavyweight MMA veteran Mauricio Rua looks to stay afloat and relevant at the same time. He’ll be trying to do this in hostile territory of his opponent James Te-Huna’s backyard. Rua has lost two in a row and three of four and questions about how much is left in the tank are beginning to surface. Te-Huna though is coming off a recent loss as well and has struggled inside the Octagon against top guys within the division. Both have something to prove and need a win badly here so expect a fight of the night candidate.

At last weekends Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale my predictions went 7-3 and the overall total for the year now sits at 243-117 (67.5%). With just two more event after tomorrows UFC Fight Night 33 card it’s time to make the final push. Below are my predictions and please feel free to leave yours in the comments section below.

My brain child is MMAValor, something I had wanted to do for a long time and finally it’s here. Been an MMA fan since TUF season one (play catch up all the time) and the obsession started to grow like a weed and as the sport grows so does the love for the sport. I’m a jack of all trades, a very organized person that rides an emotional roller coaster daily.
