Saturday’s UFC 146 card was everything a fight fan could ever ask for and more, and most of the fights went so fast you couldn’t even leave your seat before another fight started. While the all heavyweight main card is getting most of the attention, let’s take a second to look at an underdog story gone horribly right.
Before the heavyweights take over the night’s main card, the UFC 146 preliminary card will take place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The UFC 146 Preliminary card features three bouts on Facebook to open the night, before concluding with four bouts on FX that’ll lead into the main card on PPV.
An all heavyweight main card, now that’s just insane, right? Well contrary to those beliefs, the UFC has put together a main card featuring 10 heavyweights, including a title fight in the main event. The card has seen major changes up and down, including every single main card bout, but through all the changes UFC 146 is still a top-notch card.
This weekend promises to deliver an exciting event split down the middle between Heavyweights on the UFC 146 Main Card, and the UFC 146 preliminary card which features many stars leading the fans into the PPV. With all the changes to the card from top to bottom, the UFC has had their hands full with this card, yet the extra hours they put in has produced yet another solid card. With the Overeem fiasco finally brought to a head, UFC 146 doesn’t have the title fight fans wanted, but it’s a title fight none-the-less. Coming in on short notice, former Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir will step up and take on the seemingly unstoppable Junior Dos Santos as the main event of this all heavyweight PPV. Heavyweight’s equal big cash for us more often than not and this card will be no exception.
Jamie Varner makes his long-awaited return to the UFC on short notice to face an incredibly tough and undefeated star in Edison Barbosa. Varner (19-6-1) will look to take whatever chance the UFC gives him when he goes toe to toe with Barbosa (10-0), the man with one of the nastiest KO’s so far this year. Varner is no rookie to the sport and while many doubt him, he was the longest lasting WEC champ and has always been involved with good fights.
With no UFC this weekend, tonight’s XFC will take center stage in Knoxville, Tennessee and on HDNet. XFC 16: High Stakes will be headlined by a lightweight showdown between veterans Drew Fickett and Jamie Varner. Each fight comes in with a lot to prove and event on the line.

Due to a previously scheduled Arena Football game at the HP Pavilion, today’s UFC on FOX 7 weigh-ins were held less than a mile away at the California Theater. The small theater was completely filled with cheering fans and all the fighters they came to see made weight.
