UFC on FOX: Evans vs. Davis Medical Suspensions

Coming away from last week’s UFC on FOX: Evans vs. Davis event, the fighters on the card walked away fairly healthy. A total of just eight fighters were given medical suspensions by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, ranging from 30 to 60 days.

Before you even start saying how bad Saturday’s UFC on FOX 2 card was, take a deep breath and step away from the soap box. The Chicago card wasn’t nearly as bad as you think it was, ok the Maia vs. Weidman fight was pretty hard to watch, but overall the other nine bouts weren’t all that bad. Look past the dark clouds formed by three main card decisions and you’ll find some fighters that impressed, even in defeat.

Now that UFC on FOX 2 in the books its time to turn our focus to Saturday’s UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit on PPV. The traditional Super Bowl weekend card is once again in Las Vegas and is headlined with the welterweight interim championship bout between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit. Both were at one time scheduled to face Georges St. Pierre and with the champ on the mend they now face each other for a belt.

If you turned on the TV to Fox say after 6pm PT last night you would’ve caught Chael Sonnen proclaiming the Octagon his own and renaming FOX in his likeness. What you wouldn’t know from his post fight proclamation of awesomeness was that he didn’t simply walk through his opponent; in fact he barely edged out a victory against “The Count” Michael Bisping.

It’s not too often that a fight that is featured on the preliminary portion of a UFC card ends up winning the Fight of the Night bonus. Evan Dunham and Nik Lentz’s back and forth battle was epic, as the two fighters gave everything they had, in their attempt to dispatch of one another.
