Last night’s UFC on FX was supposed to be the coming out party for the last two Strikeforce middleweight champions. Luke Rockhold and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza were making their long-awaited UFC debuts in the top two fights on the card. What transpired though were outcomes at the opposite ends of the spectrum, leaving one fighter overjoyed and the other extremely disappointed.

The UFC made its second trip to Brazil this year for tonight’s 13 bout UFC on FX 8 fight card. Headlined by an important middleweight bout featuring Vitor Belfort, who also in the main event of Brazilian card back in January.
The main scale for today’s UFC on FX 8 weigh-ins must have been slightly off from the one backstage because several of the fighters needed the towel in order to make weight. Factor in the handful of fighters that took an inordinately long time to get on the scale and today’s festivities seemed to go on forever.
It’s been a couple of weeks since the UFC Octagon has seen any action but that’s soon to change as the promotion returns to Brazil this weekend for the UFC on FX 8: Belfort vs. Rockhold. Like previous cards held in Brazil, UFC on FX 8 is filled with Brazilian fighters from top to bottom.
The UFC will return to the scorching hot battleground of Brazil for UFC on FX 8 with a card packed with local talent. While injuries have done some serious damage to the top of this card, the main event remains intact and holds title implications for the victorious. One of Brazil’s first MMA heroes and current superstar, Vitor Belfort will once again take to the cage, facing the last Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold. We’ve also got Rockhold’s former foe and sub grappling legend Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza making his debut inside the Octagon, taking on a rising force in Chris Camozzi. There are plenty of others waving the green, yellow and blue as well, so let’s dig into this card and see what’s cooking in South America.
MMA has been on hiatus for the first third of the month and fight fans addicted to the sport are starting to going through withdraws. Thankfully those of you suffering from the shakes get your fix this with Friday’s MFC 37. Things begin to pick up from there as there will be two UFC events as well as LFC 20.
With Bellator still on summer vacation the UFC filled the month of April with four fight cards featuring nine fighters that appeared on last months MMA Valor Fighter Rankings. Two of those nine were champions who successfully defeated their titles and five of the other seven also walked away with victories this past month.
