Fedor and Overeem to meet in May

Too bad they won’t be fighting……..

The Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem after 30 months will finally defend his title in May. His opponent for the title fight will be Fedor….. wait I mean recently defeated by Fedor, Brett Rogers. REALLY! The number one contender and number one in the world Fedor Emelianenko will not be fighting for the belt? How is that we finally get Overeem back in the states to defend the belt and he is facing someone Fedor beat in his last time in the cage. For all we know Overeem won’t fight in the states again for another two and half years, if so what then?

If its any Consolation Fedor will be fighting on the nights card against Fabricio Werdum in what now looks like a number one contenders fight. These two were originally thought the be fighting on the April 17th Strikeforce card on CBS but it was recently pushed back.

These four fighters likely make up the top four Heavyweights currently on the Strikeforce roster. Taking a page out of the other sports playoff systems Strikeforce will put 1 (Overeem) vs. 4 (Rogers) and 2 (Fedor) vs. 3 (Werdum) against each other. The winners will then face each other to decide once and for all who is the best Heavyweight in Strikeforce. Sounds great and all but the same thing could have been accomplish with Overeem facing Fedor and Werdum against Rogers. I hate to think that someone might be avoiding a certain someone but until Overeem fights Fedor the thought is there.

  1. Fedor’s managament is constantly trying to ride the tail of any company that’s putting on the show. Fedor has so much loyalty that he won’t leave, even when it’ll be better for his fanbase and mma. Overeem and Fedor better meet up, but it would better to see Fedor in the UFC.
