UFC was trying to making up for lost time

IMG 18261 300x225 UFC was trying to making up for lost timeJust hours after his comeback victory and submission of the night honors, the UFC was already planning what’s next for Brock Lesnar (5-1). Everyone already knew the opponent was going to be Cain Velasquez (8-0), but talk of the fight happening as soon as UFC 119 on September 25th was a bit of a shocker.

The UFC according to MMAJunkie had approached each fighter prior to the title fight about possibly fighting again at UFC 119. Dana White has since backed off the idea informing multiple outlets that the Lesnar vs. Velasquez bout will not take place at UFC 119.

You can see where the UFC was coming from though, having the “baddest man on the planet” on the shelf for almost a year, it’s time to make up for lost time. If things were different at home for Lesnar he likely wouldn’t have any issues with fighting again so fast.

Lesnar’s wife, Rena “Sable” Mero is pregnant for the second time in two years and is set to deliver the couple’s second child together in roughly two weeks. So instead of jumping right back into training he’d prefer to spend time with the family, do some farming and also some hunting.

Take all this into account and it looks like we won’t see the heavyweight champ back in the cage tell the end of the year. Something the UFC and Dana White certainly didn’t want to happen but looks like Velasquez will have to wait a few more months.

Whenever the two do meet, Velasquez will be the second straight undefeated fighter to face Lesnar. Coming into UFC 116 Shane Carwin was also undefeated at (12-0) and many thought he was the one to takedown Lesnar. Velasquez is also a wrestler like both Lesnar and Carwin but he will pose a whole different set of issues for the champ.

With the October (UFC 120) and November (UFC 121) PPV overseas, expect to see this heavyweight clash in December or January.
