Demetrious Johnson 147137 Demetrious Johnson: The Ultimate ProspectThe WEC merger into the UFC will showcase new fighters in new weight classes that many casual MMA fans know little about. One of the best new prospects in MMA is Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (8-1 MMA).

His WEC Debut left him scrambling for a change when Brad Pickett (19-5 MMA) took him down at will and easily secured the unanimous decision win at WEC 48. Johnson hit the weights at AMC Pankration and made his comeback to the WEC against a tough test and undefeated Nick Pace at WEC 51. He dominated the fight using his wrestling and control to dictate from bell to bell to earn the unanimous decision.

Johnson took a major step up in competition on Thursday at WEC 52, taking on top ten Bantamweight Damacio Page (12-5 MMA). The fight was his fourth fight of 2010 and third with the WEC and Johnson seemed very calm to be standing across from one of the best in the world. Johnson showed great hand speed and boxing to keep Page at bay and the wrestling went back and forth. Near the end of the round it seemed as if the Pace may be turning tides as Page slowed and Johnson became more dominant.

The Second round was dominated by Johnson and he delivered constantly strong Ground and Pound and decent looking guard passes to stay active on the ground. The third started the same way and when Page was going for a desperation takedown Mighty Mouse secured a deep guillotine choke and the fight was stopped via submission.

Keep an eye on Johnson for he holds all the tools of a great mixed martial artist and is exciting everywhere. He just took out a very elite bantamweight and is one to two fights away from a title shot in a very tough division. His next fight is unknown but Faber, Torres, and a Pickett rematch all sound fantastic.
