Robbie Lawler Expected to Fight Jacare Souza on Jan 29
Following his 50-second knockout of Matt Landland at Strikeforce: St. Louis, Robbie Lawler (20-6) is expected face Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza (13-2) for the middleweight title at Strikeforce’s January 29 event in San Jose. Souza defeating Tim Kennedy back in August to capture the vacant middleweight title via unanimous decision.
The January Strikeforce event will air on Showtime and is expected to be headlined by welterweight champ Nick Diaz, though an opponent has yet to be determined. Tim Kennedy is also rumored to be on the card in a rubber match against Jason “Mayhem” Miller. Herschel Walker will also be on the card with more fights to be announced.
Lawler will have his hands full in the first major Strikeforce card of the year against the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo Black Belt. Four of Lawler’s six defeats have come by way of submission; three of those submissions came at the hands of BJJ Black Belts.
