Bellator 47: Featherweight Tournament Continues
The featherweight tournament is now down to just two fighters as the semifinals are now in the books and the finals are set. The televised portion of Bellator 47 featured the two semifinal tournament bouts along with two other special attraction fights.
The night opened on MTV2 with heavyweights Neil Grove taking on Zak Jensen it a slugfest that didn’t last long. Both came out throwing bombs and you knew it could end at any moment and seconds later it did as from top position Grove rained down heavy shot on Jensen that slowly put him to sleep and the referee stepped in to stop the bout.
Next up was the home town hero Chris Horodecki taking on Chris Saunders in a lightweight scrap. From the opening bell Horodecki was in control of the fight and had the crowd going as he rolled to a unanimous decision.
The co-main event was the first semifinal bout between Marlon Sandro and Nazareno Malegarie for a spot in the finals. This fight stayed completely standing which totally played in favor of Sandro who jabbed his way to an easy win. Malegarie was able to get the fight to the ground and was picked about for the whole 15 minutes.
The main event and last semifinal bout looked to be a great scrap between Pat Curran and Ronnie Mann. Though the fight had its moments it also had its fair share of dull points that had the crowd at the Rama Casino boo’n for more action. Curran picked his points and kept Mann off-balance the entire fight en route to unanimous decision.
Bellator 48 will now see Marlon Sandro and Pat Curran square off in the finals for the 100k and chance to face Joe Warren.
