Shlemenko and Lima win at Bellator 57
Two more names were added to the list of Bellator Tournament champions at last night’s Bellator 57. The finals in the middleweight and welterweight tournament headlined the promotions second trip to Canada and the Casino Rama in Rama. Ontario.
Improving to 7-1 with Bellator and 43-7 overall, Alexander Shlemenko won his second tournament by defeating Vitor Vianna via unanimous decision. The “Storm” dominated the Brazilian from start to finish, earning himself another shot at Hector Lomard and the Bellator middleweight title. Lombard is the only blemish on Shlemenko’s record over the last three years.
In the welterweight tournament final, Douglas Lima won his ninth fight in a row by knocking out Ben Saunders in the second round. After an evenly match opening round the former MFC welterweight champion dropped the ducking Saunders with a right hand and finished him off with hammerfists. The loss snaps a four fight winning streak by Saunders since being released from the UFC. Next up for Lima will be the undefeated Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren.
