Dennis Bermudez Loves the Hype Behind Diego Brandao Heading into TUF 14 Finale
Featherweight Dennis Bermudez earned his spot in the TUF 14 house by defeating Jimmie Rivera by second round TKO in the preliminary round. His impressive showing garnered praise from Dana White and the coaches and despite never fighting at featherweight until the preliminary round, the former Division 1 wrestler had all the hype behind him entering the house.
That hype would get him picked second overall (Team Miller’s #1) right behind his opponent in tomorrow’s final Diego Brandao, who was picked first overall by Team Bisping. Brandao was equally impressive in the preliminary round needing just 47 seconds to knockout Jesse Newell.
Bermudez defeated Stephen Bass and Akira Corassani to make it to the finals while Brandao walked right though Steven Siler and Bryan Caraway, needing all of 5:32 in his three TUF 14 fights. Bradao made it look easy this season and now enters the finals with all the hype behind him.
“I love the hype on him. I love being the underdog, it fuels me. I like when people expect me not to win,” said Bermudez of the reversed rolls.
Neither fighter should need any more fuel than the simple fact they are fighting for a six figure contract with the biggest MMA promotions in the world. With that being said after his win over Caraway, Brandao went out of his way to call out Bermudez, who looked on perplexed from outside the cage.
“I wasn’t trash talking,” explained Bermudez, “I think he likes to fuel his own fire and get pissed off.”
Bermudez left the house and went right to work at Long Island MMA and Bellmore kickboxing where he worked on his mitt work, hands and head movement in preparation for Diego Brandao.
Tune in tomorrow (Saturday Dec. 3rd) for the TUF 14 finale, where Dennis Bermudez and Diego Brandao will battle it out to become the next Ultimate fighter and first ever crowned in the featherweight division.
