MMA Fighter Rankings for December 2011
The month of November might have only had two major title fights but both would end with the challengers hands raised. The two new champions along with the other action last month gave the ranking plenty of changes, including a new number one in the heavyweight division.
Obviously the two biggest moves were the winners and losers in the title fights. At UFC on FOX 1, Junior Dos Santos knockout out Cain Velasquez very early in the first round to become the new UFC heavyweight champion. Just like that Velasquez was handed his first career defeat, lost the belt and his spot atop the MMA Valor heavyweight rankings. He didn’t drop far as Dos Santos moved to the top spot and Velasquez dropped to #2. The other champion to loss was Bellator’s lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at Bellator 58, he was ranked #4. Season four tournament winner Michael Chandler defeated Alvarez by submission in the fourth round to claim the title. Chandler’s win put him on the list for the first time in the #5 spot, while the loss knocked Alvarez out of the top five.
The division to see the biggest change was the light heavyweights as the epic battle between Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 139 that shuffled the two through five spots. The fighter sitting in the top position, Jon Jones will fight this weekend against former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 140.
The month of December will see five fighters from the ranks step into the cage with another three fighters who are “knocking on the door” fighting as well. The biggest fight in December has to be the UFC 141 main event between Alistair Overeem (ranked #3) and Brock Lesnar (ranked #5). The winner will earn the next title shot in the UFC heavyweight division and most defiantly move up the ranks.
As always the goal here is to give you the best rankings that we can provide you with and of course a spot below for you to disagree and complain. So without further ado here is the latest MMAValor.com fighter Rankings:
