MMA Fighter Rankings for June 2011

The month of May has been quiet for the fighters on the rankings, unfortunately causing little movement amongst the divisions. Only three fights on the May rankings stepped into the cage last month, walking away with a 2-1 record.

With such little action, the rankings only saw two changes major changes and one minor.

The #5 ranked Bantamweight, Miguel Torres lost at UFC 130 to Demetrious Johnson by unanimous decision. The loss was his third in five fights and dropped the former champion out of the top five. Replacing him at #5 is another former champion in Brian Bowles who defeated Damacio Page last March and faces Takeya Mizugaki at next months UFC 132.

For reasons away from the Octagon, Chael Sonnen has been removed from the top five. Sonnen has been out of action since UFC 117 last August with numerous legal issues, including steroids and Money Laundering. Until Sonnen gets reinstated by the Athletic commissions he cannot fight and thus shouldn’t be on the list.

Replacing him at the #4 middleweight spot is Hector Lombard who defeated Falaniko Vitale at Bellator 44 last month. Lombard is riding a crazy 22 fight winning streak and debuted last month in the #5 spot. Claiming the now open #5 position is submission specialist Demain Maia who will be taking on the very tough Mark Munoz at this month’s UFC 131.

A quick look at next month show that three of the top 5 heavyweights will be in action, expect some movement there next month.
