Fight Master LogoFollowing the start of the Bellator MMA summer series tonight, the promotion unveiled their reality show Fight Master: Bellator MMA.

The show brings new and old concepts to the table as there are 32 welterweights fighting for $100,000, a future spot in a Bellator Tournament and the title of “Fight Master”. The fighters that win their elimination fight will stand before the four coaches and pick who they think will best guide them to the top.

Those four coaches are Joe Warren (Rino Sports), Greg Jackson (Jackson’s MMA), Randy Couture (Extreme Couture) and Frank Shamrock (Shamrock MMA). Each team will get four fighters only and once full the fighters cannot select that team.

Elimination round bouts will be two five-minute rounds, in case of a tie there will be one sudden death round. Now onto the fights!

Fight #1 - Chip Moraza-Pollard (Age: 24, 7-4-0) vs. Tim Welch (Age: 22, 8-4-0)

  • Chip Moraza-Pollard showcased a very fast jab but Tim Welch used that jab to counter with a right / left combo that ended the fight. Tim Welch wins via 1st round KO
  • Despite all the coaches wanting him Welch picks Greg Jackson and Jackson’s MMA as his team.

Fight #2 – Eric Scallan (Age: 27, Record: 11-4-0) vs. Christopher Curtis (Age: 25, Record: 7-2-0)

  • Eric Scallan opens the fight with a cheap shot as Christopher Curtis goes to touch gloves. This upset Curtis but didn’t help him defend the multiple takedowns by his opponent. Eric Scallan wins via Majority Decision.
  • None of the coaches are that interested in Scallan but in the end he chooses Joe Warren and Rino Sports.

Fight #3Brendan Tierney (Age: 37, Record: 10-5-0) vs. Nick Barnes (Age: 22, Record: 5-0-0)

  • The most competitive fight thus far. Brendan Tierney hurt Nick Barnes with a high knee from in the clinch and even had his back searching for a submission. Barnes escaped and turned the tables on his elder, taking his back and getting the submission. Nick Barnes wins via 1st round rear-naked choke submission.
  • All the coaches wanted him but one went over the top and so Nick Barnes went with Frank Shamrock and Shamrock MMA.

Fight #4Darryl Cobb (Age: 32, Record: 6-6-0) vs. AJ Matthews (Age: 24, Record: 5-2-0)

  • Darryl Cobb controlled round one, AJ Matthews took round two so they went to a third. Cobb looked tired and Matthews took him down and won the round with his ground and pound. AJ Matthews wins via Unanimous Decision.
  • The coaches battled but AJ Matthews liked what Randy Couture said and he picked Extreme Couture.

Fight #5 – Josh Quayhagen (Age: 26, Record: 6-1-0) vs. Chris Lozano (Age: 30, Record: 9-3-0)

  • A one-sided fight dominated for the full 10 minutes by the Bellator Veteran. Chris Lozano wins via Unanimous Decision.
  • Having worked with Lozano in the past Greg Jackson thought it was a lock but Chris Lozano decided to train with Shamrock MMA instead.

With Lozano’s selection of Shamrock MMA, Frank Shamrock’s team is now halfway filled just five fights into the elimination round. The other three teams still have three open spots on their team with 11 fights to go in the eliminations round.

It’s a familiar idea with a twist, so what did you think of the Fight Master: Bellator MMA premier?

Been an MMA fan since TUF season one (play catch up all the time) and the obsession started to grow like a weed and as the sport grows so does the love for the sport. I’m a jack of all trades, a very organized person that rides an emotional roller coaster daily.
