Things ramped up in the world of Mixed Martial Arts in September. Along with two UFC events, Bellator kicked off its fifth season with three events, Strikeforce held two and BAMMA had one. The action will continue at this feverish pace until the calendar turns over a new year.
If you stayed up late last night / early this morning to watch DREAM 17 you saw another solid yet long Japanese Mixed Martial Arts event. The card saw the opening round of the eight man bantamweight tournament along with many of the top JMMA competitors.
News out of Jamie Varner’s management team yesterday had Varner fighting Shinya Aoki at Dream 17 on May 29th in Japan. The release though seems a bit pre-mature as Varner’s camp and Aoki’s camp still have details that need to be hammered out.
On May 29th, the Japanese MMA scene will try to bounce back with Dream 17, featuring eight talented Bantamweights vying for a shot to win the Dream Bantamweight grand prix. The fighters were announced a while back, but the matchups were announced today via a conference call in Tokyo. The first round matches are as follows.
