Dream 17 features the first two rounds of their Bantamweight Tournament in what they hope will be an effort to raise money for relief for Japan from the Earthquake and subsequent tsunami that caused massive damage to Japan. So far only the Bantamweight matches have been announced.
On May 29th, the Japanese MMA scene will try to bounce back with Dream 17, featuring eight talented Bantamweights vying for a shot to win the Dream Bantamweight grand prix. The fighters were announced a while back, but the matchups were announced today via a conference call in Tokyo. The first round matches are as follows.
Darren Uyenoyama (6-3) vs. Atsushi Yamamoto (14-6-1)
Yoshiro Maeda (28-9) vs. Hideo Tokoro (27-23)
Keisuke Fujiwara (11-2-4) vs. Masakazu Imanari (21-8-2)
Kenji Osawa (16-9-2) vs. Takafumi Otsuka (11-7-1)
The Second Round of the grand prix is the same night and those matchups are as follows.
Uyenoyama/Yammamoto Winner vs. Maeda/Tokoro Winner
Fujiwara/Imanari Winner vs. Osawa/Ostsuka Winner
The final round of the tournament is tentively scheduled for July and there will also be a third place match at the finals, as the top three will be entered into the Dream World Bantamweight Grand Prix expected this fall.
