UFC 134 Under the Radar

ufcrioutr

Everyone knows the big fights at UFC 134.  Anderson Silva will be defending his Middleweight title against Yushin Okami, Big Nog will try to get his groove back against Brendan Schaub and Forrest Griffin and Shogun Rua are going to run it back in a rematch of their UFC 76 classic.  However, there are a few other fights on the card that will definitely be entertaining.  Let’s take a quick look at the fights flying under the radar at UFC 134.

Watch Roger Huerta and Phil Baroni Drink Snake Blood

No that wasn’t a typo! Former UFC fighters Roger Huerta and Phil Baroni try to one up Mike Swick by doing shots of snake blood. The fighters are in South East Asia and after Swick took to the ocean to swim to an island, Huerta is looking to take it one step further. Baroni (wearing his bike helmet as if it was a crash test helmet) is there for support of Huerta and adds comic relief to the video.

Though this video is pretty funny at time it is graphic at times and does contain graphic language so you have been warned.

UFC Fight for the Troops 2 Shaping Up

The second UFC event held on an US military base will be coming to Spike TV on January 22nd at Fort Hood, Texas. This fight card while not the most staked on paper, usually turns out to have very great fights that are free to the fans. The UFC is one of the few major sports organizations that host events that mainly benefit suffering soldiers and veterans, and it makes veterans and a MMA fan very proud to see.

UFC 109 Fight Bonuses and Tito being Tito

A good night of fights tonight at UFC 109 with some good finishes sprinkled in with a lot of decisions. The finish by Randy Couture was a bit of a pleasant surprise as many thought he’d win but by a decision and to pull out a submission was nice. That was only the second submission is Couture’s UFC career (21 fights) and that’s saying a lot. The great thing was that wasn’t even the submission of the nightas that went to Paulo Thiago for his D’arce choke submission of Mike Swick.

UFC 109: Relentless Predictions

The UFC will hold it’s first ever main event featuring two present Hall of Famers Saturday in Las Vegas when Randy Couture faces Mark Coleman. The fight has been labeled many things from old-timers day to the battle of legends and really they are all true. The thing i hear though what strikes meas the most outrageous and rather far fetched is that the winner could be next in line for a title shot. I know they are legends but the 205lbs division is pretty deep and either fighter should have to fight a top 5 guy first before title shot talk. It is a business though and if couture were to win the UFC might give him a title shot before he retires, again.

I went 4-2 with my Strikeforce: Miami picks bringing me up 23-13-1 for the year. Here are my picks for UFC 109:

UFC Gym Grand Opening

The UFC officially opened their first gym yesterday in concord, California with a big grand opening. Some of the guests attending the event were Dana White, Chuck Liddell, Mark Mastrov, Jim Rowley and that was just the press conference. White spoke to media, friends and family about the UFC, the gym, what it’s about and where it’s going. If you read “My take on the UFC Gym” you’ll know exactly what the UFC Gym is all about. Regarding the future White broke news of where the next UFC Gym is going to be and that is Rosemead, CA which would have been easier on all if he just said LA. Rosemead is located 11 miles east of Los Angeles and will be home to a 40,000 sq. foot UFC Gym later the year with enrollment starting in February. Further plans included a BJ Penn branded UFC Gym in Hilo and a Georges St-Pierre branded UFC Gym in Montreal and possible even a Chuck Liddell UFC Gym too.
