This week’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter 17 begins with the usual recap, showing one more time that nasty knockout by Uriah Hall. After being taken to the hospital and checked out, Adam Cella returns to the house with a clean bill of health and immediately seeks out Hall to congratulate him.
Week three starts off with recapping Luke’s sick flying knee to keep control of the TUF 17 fight selections for Team Sonnen. Bubba calls out “King” but Team Sonnen matches up Uriah Hall vs. Adam Cella. Team Jones seems pretty excited about the match up. They said that this is the exact matchup they wanted, which we all laughed about since Bubba obviously wanted Kevin Casey next.
UnCut Sports show Rundown – Anthony Pettis was quickly granted his wish to fight featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Dana White confirmed that the two will meet on August 3rd of this year for the UFC Featherweight Championship. So where does this leave Frankie Edgar who has decided that he will not rejoin the ranks of the UFC’s Lightweights.
Tonight’s fight was hyped up during the final seconds of last week’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter 17 as having a crazy finish. The Sonnen’s Uriah Hall was taking on Adam Cella of Team Jones and if the previews are correct, these two strikers produce a hell of an ending.
So at the end of the Premiere we moved on to the team picks. A coin was flipped and Chael Sonnen won the toss, he chose to pick the first fighter, which was Luke Barnatt. This meant that Jon Jones (Little JJ as Chael calls him) got to pick the first fight match up. Jon decided to go right after our number one pick and matched up the shortest guy in the house, Gilbert “Jamal” “Gigantoooooor” Smith against the tallest man in the house, Luke “The European Gangster” Barnatt. Obviously after watching the episode the rest of Team Jones was not on board with this pick.
The Ultimate Fighter 17 isn’t starting out the why Team Jones would have liked. Team Jones is not very happy with the fight selection, none of them are very comfortable Gilbert Smith can win and thus they’d lose control of the fight selection.
Last week’s Ultimate Fighter 17 debut saw 14 fighters, including Zak Cummings survive the elimination round to make it into the house. Cummings fought in the episodes second fight and scored the fastest finish of the night with a 7 second TKO against Nik Fekete. With that said, we are VERY lucky to announce that Zak Cummings will be writing a weekly TUF 17 blog right here throughout the season.
If tonight’s Ultimate Fighter 17 premiere is any indication of how this season is going to be, hold on tight. The elimination round episode is typically a fun episode but this season the UFC introduced a new twist, the families.
UFC on FOX 7: Henderson vs. Melendez Weigh-in Pictures
Due to a previously scheduled Arena Football game at the HP Pavilion, today’s UFC on FOX 7 weigh-ins were held less than a mile away at the California Theater. The small theater was completely filled with cheering fans and all the fighters they came to see made weight.
The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale Weigh-in Pictures
Amidst everything else going on, the UFC has themselves a busy day today with the UFC on FX 6 taking place in Australia and The Ultimate Fighter 16 finale weigh-ins. All 24 fighters made weight today for tomorrow’s event that will crown The Ultimate Fighter 16 welterweight winner.
UFC on FUEL TV 4 Weigh-in Results and Photos
SAN JOSE, Cal. – Still recovering from Saturday’s UFC 148, MMAValor.com was inside the HP Pavilion for today’s UFC on FUEL TV 4 weigh-ins. A few of the fighters would need to step onto the scale behind a towel but all 22 fighters on the UFC on FUEL TV 4 fight card made weight.
TUF Live Finale Live Results and Event Pictures
The long grind of the first live version of The Ultimate Fighter ends tonight at the TUF Live Finale in Las Vegas. Featuring 12 of the 16 TUF Live contestants, the 10 bout card will be headlined by an important match-up in the welterweight division between Jake Ellenberger and Martin Kampmann.

All the fighters for tomorrow’s TUF Live Finale were on weight as they stepped onto the scales inside the Pearl at the Palms. The 20 fighters, including 12 of the 16 TUF Live fighters will begin entering the Octagon tomorrow starting at 2:45pm PT / 5:45pm ET.
