Coming up this Saturday, May 26, UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir comes to you live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. When this card was first announced, people were going crazy over the original main event between Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem. Unfortunately, Overeem was pulled from the card after a failed drug test and the MMA world was up in arms trying to figure out who would take his place. Two weeks later, Dana White announced via Twitter that former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Frank Mir, would be filling in against Junior Dos Santos.
The MMA Fighter Rankings for the month of May look much different from what they did just one month ago, despite many of the ranked fighters not even fighting. Fighter suspensions coupled with losses and big wins by ranked fighters played a bit of havoc on the rankings.
When the UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defeated Rashad Evans by unanimous decision at last weekend’s UFC 145, the first things that came to mind was “WOW, he made it look easy.” Not too long after that though my mind reset and the second thing that came to mind was “who’s next?” for Jon Jones.
Following this weekend’s UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans event, the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission passed out suspensions to 20 of the 24 fighters. Three fighters were issued lengthy suspensions, while one was given an indefinite suspension.
Welcome to the UFC Chad Griggs! Griggs made his UFC debut tonight and it took Travis Browne two huge knees and an Arm Triangle to end it just 2:30 seconds into the opening frame. Travis Browne threw a picture perfect flying knee and followed it up with another knee that rocked Griggs. Moments later he took Griggs down and mounted him. Griggs showed some inexperience at that point almost pushing Browne into position for the Arm Triangle and then tapping moments later.
UFC 145 is the first UFC Pay-Per-View in nearly two months and takes place from the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Headlining the night is the highly anticipated light heavyweight title fight between former team mates Jon Jones and Rashad Evans. There is no love lost between these two and the war of words is nearly over.
There hasn’t been a video blog from Dana White it what seems like forever, which could only mean either Dana White has been camera-shy or there hasn’t been a UFC Pay Per View in a while……..
