The Final week of 2012 came and went, the over sized apple dropped in the “Big Apple” and the holiday season is over. For this week’s Independent MMA Link Club we are going to give you all a little bonus, not only will you get this week’s links but you’ll also giving you some year-end links as well.
The UFC closed out the 2012 year with tonight’s UFC 155 and while the card had its highs and lows, the final two bouts ended things in style. Live from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and televised across Facebook, FX and PPV tonight’s UFC 155 saw former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez avenge his loss to Junior Dos Santos to reclaim the UFC heavyweight championship.
At one point Todd Duffee was an undefeated heavyweight prospect with what looked to be an incredible future ahead of him. Back to back losses with a pink slip from the UFC mixed in between quickly reversed the powerful striker’s fortunes from prospect to bust.
The time has come, 2012 is nearing its end and Saturdays UFC 155 closes out a strange year for the MMA promotion. Headlined by the heavyweight championship bout between Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez and filled with 11 other fights, UFC 155 looks to end the year on a high note.
So this week’s Independent MMA Link Club slipped a few days due to that whole Christmas thing but they often say “Better late than never”. We are just days away from Saturday’s UFC 155 that will close out one of the promotions strangest years to date.
Alan Belcher (17-5) is flying under the MMA radar through the UFC middleweight division. He is currently on a four fight win streak and is coming off a stunning dominate performance against Rousimar Palhares back in May. Without a doubt Alan Belcher is inching closer to a title shot against the all-powerful Anderson Silva, but first he must take care of business against Yushin Okami at UFC 155.
Am I the only person mad at Christmas for costing us a weekend of fights? Probably. Well, with that useless holiday out-of-the-way, we have my real present on the 29th, as Cain Velasquez will look to reclaim his Heavyweight title at UFC 155. Junior Dos Santos is no Santa Claus though and won't willingly hand over the strap in the last title bid of the year. It's action across nearly every weight class, so settle in with that last glass of egg nog and let me break down these UFC 155 bouts for you.
Hopefully by now things are returning back to normal, the house guests have left and you can resume your MMA obsession. If you were one of the many that went into an “internet dark period” over the holidays you probably missed several of the MMA stories that unfolded over the last few days.
