Head Hunting Time

A lot of people look at Paul Buentello and don’t even know who he is, but his upcoming fight with Kongo can really put him on the map, or send him packing. This guy has great hands and always seems to get into standup wars where his amount of heart is amazing. He is one of those fighters that thinks ground game is when someone gets knocked out. He is very humble even in defeat and is real motivation for the guys who might not have everything on a silver platter. Other than his rough fights with Arlovski, and Overeem (still some of the top HW’s in the world) he has always put on great performances. His last fight was with Stefan “the skyscraper” Struve ,a fight I thought should have been a split decision in his favor. The most memorable moment of that fight was when Paul was a little hurt and backing up as Struve went for a flying knee. I have never seen a guy picked out of the air like that with one punch, defiantly a KO worthy punch if placed a little more flush on the chin.

Paul trains out of the grudge training center in Colorado with the likes of Marquardt, Ludwig, Schuab, and other notable UFC fighters. He is getting real serious for his opportunity with a very tough opponent in Kongo. Both these guys have flaws in their game and this fight will come down to who has worked the hardest in their camps. I know Kongo will be the definite fan favorite and the betting favorite as well, but this is a very close fight and we may even see him try his ground game. His close friend Rashad Evans mentioned a few days ago that Paul Buentello has “10x the hand skill as Mir” when talking about the possible outcome of his next fight with Kongo. I know this fight is going to be fireworks in the first round and I really can’t wait to see it. Win, lose, or draw I will be rooting for a true warrior in the head hunter, he is a great and humble fighter and I wish him the best of luck in his upcoming fight.
