Vitor Belfort vs Yushin Okami set for UFC 122 main event
Following the announcement by Dana White that Chael Sonnen would receive an immediate rematch with Anderson Silva. The UFC has now booked a middleweight, number one contender matchup between Vitor Belfort (19-8) and Yushin Okami (25-5). The fight is being reported to take place at UFC 122, which will be held in Oberhausen, Germany this November. It is tentatively scheduled to serve as the night main event but with the card still being put together that could change.
Belfort has been recovering and waiting in the wings for his shot at Anderson Silva and his middleweight title. He last fought at UFC 103 in August of last year where he defeated Rich Franklin to earn his shot at Silva. After the fight booked and postponed on three separate cards due to injuries by both fighters, Silva healed to face Demian Maia at UFC 112 and most recently Sonnen at UFC 117.
A now healthy Belfort thought he would be next in line, but the immediate rematch will force him to fight Okami at UFC 122 to earn that shot he so desires.
The last man to defeat Silva (DQ), Okami is riding a two fight win streak after defeating Mark Munoz at UFC on Versus 2. Okami has been close to fighting Silva for the title on several occasions but has either lost on been passed over for another fighter. I win over Belfort will finally land him that long-awaited rematch with Silva.
