Shoulder Surgery Shelves Jon Fitch up to Six Months

BJ Penn and Jon Fitch UFC 127 300x173 Shoulder Surgery Shelves Jon Fitch up to Six Months

Jon Fitch had hoped his injured shoulder, suffered during his last fight against BJ Penn would only need physical therapy but unfortunately this will not be the case. The American Kickboxing Academy fighter got bad news yesterday that he’ll need to go under the knife and have shoulder surgery that will keep him out of action for up to six months.

Fitch Took an almost identical approach as his fellow AKA teammate Cain Velasquez who also suffered a similar shoulder injury in his fight with Brock Lesnar. As most of the AKA fighters are, both Fitch and Velasquez love to train yet will now have to stay clear of training to allow time to heal.

Fitch (23-3-1) was schedule to fight BJ Penn (16-7-2) at UFC 132 in a rematch of their three round draw at UFC 127 last February. The injury forced Fitch to withdraw from the fight and Penn would later also withdraw citing a shoulder injury of his own.

Finch plans on fighting BJ Penn when he returns for the injury then hopefully taking on the winner of Georges St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields who will fight later this month at UFC 129. Whatever happens though Fitch will be chopping at the bit to step back inside that octagon by years end.
