| September 10, 2011 | Reply

With two events happening at nearly the same time, MMA fans were given the full of MMA overload. The Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix: Barnett vs. Kharitonov undercard fights aired on HDNet with five exciting fights. With upsets, finishes, debuts and a little dancing, the undercard had a little bit for everyone.

Here are the results from the Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov Undercard:

185 lbs.: Chris Mierzwiak vs. Dominique Steele

A lot of back and forth action in this bout has both fighters close to finishes. Mierzwiak Rocked Steele in the middle of round one that leads to him taking his back, but was unable to get the choke. Steele comes out strong in round two, gets an early takedown and dominates the round. In the final round both fighters look tired, Steele gets another takedown and even though Mierzwaik gets his back late in the round, Steele ends the round where is was for most of the round, on top.

Dominique Steele by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-27)

145 lbs.: Alexis Davis vs. Amanda Nunes

The two come out throwing bombs and halfway through the round Nunes gets a takedown but the two end the round how they started. Davis comes out in round two closing the distance taking the power away from Nunes. The gameplan worked to perfection though and Davis controlled the whole round. Nunes took the fight to the ground and Davis reversed to and got the mount, which forced Nunes to give up her back. After several strikes that had Nunes in trouble, the referee ended the fight.

Alexis Davis by 2nd rd. TKO

170 lbs.: Jordan Mein vs. Evangelista Santos

The opening round is all standing with Santos getting the better of things with both heavy kicks and slick counter punches. Again all standing here in round two and Santos still kicking, but Main seems to have changed things up between rounds and look better that round. Momentum on the side of Mein entering the final round sees the youngster out boxing Santos, hurting the Brazilian and getting the finish along the fence via elbows.

Jordan Mein by 3rd rd. TKO

205 lbs.: Rafael Cavalcante vs. Yoel Romero

Romero doing a lot of dancing in round one and not throwing a single punch until 10 seconds left in the first. The dancing and moving around even got the referee to stop the fight and warn him to fight! Romero finally opens things up in round two and the two go back and forth the whole round. Cavalcante missing a head kick but follows it with a back fist that drops the undefeated wrestler. A flurry by Cavalcante as the round comes to an end finishes of Romero.

Rafael Cavalcante by 2nd rd. KO

205 lbs.: Mike Kyle vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima

Kyle does a really good staying on the outside of de Lima, while landing the better of the strikes to open up the fight. Hard to tell id de Lima is getting hurt or trying to draw in Kyle from the outside. Much of the same in round two but Kyle adds in a late takedown before things get a little sloppy as the round ends. De Lima opening things up a little but he looks really out-of-place and not much is really landing. Kyle gets a perfect double leg takedown with about 90 seconds left and finishes the round there.

Mike Kyle by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
