Gabriel Gonzaga welcomes Shane Del Rosario back to action at UFC 146
Current UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos and title challenger Alistair Overeem won’t be the only large competitors showcased at UFC 146: Overeem vs. Dos Santos in late May. Former top UFC heavyweight contender Gabriel Gonzaga makes his second trip back to the octagon following a lengthy absence against the always double tough Shane Del Rosario.
Gonzaga’s last UFC outing yielded positive results for the Brazilian competitor, as he submitted Ednaldo Oliveira in the first round at UFC 142, thus eliciting favorable fan response from those who missed Gonzaga during his over year-long absence from the UFC.
Shane Del Rosario can make the rare boast of being undefeated in his pro MMA career thus far, and his last three performances, of which were all Strikeforce appearances, he impressively finished all contests, with two submissions, and one TKO to his credit. Del Rosario has been out on action since February on 2011 due to an injury suffered in a car accident last May that forced him to withdraw from a scheduled match against Daniel Cormier.
Since Strikeforce has all but completely done away with the heavyweight division, the heavyweight imports from Strikeforce keep making the move to the UFC. Del Rosario manager had announced late last year that his client had signed with the UFC and would make his debut in 2012.
The Gonzaga vs. Del Rosario fight should be a solid indication as to what fans can expect in the coming years, now that all of the top talent under the ZUFFA umbrella at heavyweight will soon be fighting under in the UFC.
