UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall Main Card Breakdown

This Friday night the UFC brings the Flyweight rematch between Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall to Florida as the headliner of UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall. The event landed in Florida as part of the Harley Davidson Home Town Throw down and if the judges can add correctly will determine who will face Joseph Benavidez in the first ever UFC Flyweight title fight. The UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall card will feature 12 bouts overall, with a main card of four.

In what may be one of the best fights possible for a tribute to the exciting past of the WEC, Scott Jorgensen will meet Eddie Wineland to open the UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall main card. Jorgensen is a wrestling based fighter with great stamina and ground and pound who holds one of the only KO’s with an opponent in closed guard as well as the only ten finger guillotine in Major MMA. Wineland is a seasoned fight veteran looking to break a tough losing streak and will be hungry to keep his UFC career afloat. Both fighters are coming off disappointing loses and will look to impress. This paired with the light weight fast paced attitude will be sure to hook all viewers in to a great night of fights.

The second fight on the main card pairs two tough welterweights in Mike Pyle and Josh Neer. Both of these fighters mirror strengths having impressive striking paired with lethal Jiu Jitsu. Neither fighter hold a particular edge, making the fight nearly even, so the odds of picking the correct winner will defiantly be a coin flip. Neer is on a six fight win streak and Pyle has won four of his last five.

Erick Silva

In the co-main event of UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall, tough Brazilian Erik Silva will meet Charlie Brenneman in a welterweight matchup. Silva is incredibly dangerous with strikes and would be flawless in the UFC if it wasn’t for a few strikes hitting the back of the head during his domination of Carlos Prater. Brenneman has pulled the upset before and his wrestling could be the key to shutting down the wild striker in Silva. This should be a great test for both fighters, and could very well be a Varner like wrestling underdog with the win.

In the main event the fan’s get all of their “if’s” answered when Demetrious Johnson meets Ian McCall in the cage again. Johnson seemed to be the powerhouse early while McCall ran away with the fight late the first time around. With a simple judges slip the fans were left without the extra round and Joseph Benavidez was left to wait. Will we see a different plan from both fighters this time around is the real question as McCall seemed to be the better grappler and Johnson proved to be too fast and frustrating with the stand up striking. This will be another fight of the year candidate and the fans are finally getting justification for their original opinion.

Be sure to catch all of the fights this Friday night on a card full of action packed brawls. Check back later to MMAValor.com for UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall predictions and the betting corner.
