UFC on FOX 7 Main Card = UFC vs Strikeforce
It might be nothing but the coincidence UFC president Dana White says it is but tomorrows UFC on FOX 7 main card should be dubbed UFC vs Strikeforce. Each of the four main card bouts that will air live on FOX features a UFC veteran against a former Strikeforce fighter.
Headlining the UFC vs Strikeforce card is a lightweight super fight between current UFC champion Benson Henderson and the last man to hold the Strikeforce belt, Gilbert Melendez. Yes the winner will walk away with just the UFC belt around their waist but in all actuality he will have unified the UFC and Strikeforce lightweight titles. An imaginary title, yes, but something to be very proud of and not overlooked.
If lightweights aren’t your thing how about a former UFC heavyweight champion taking on the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix winner in Daniel Cormier? Well if that peaked your interest you are in luck because that is the UFC on Fox 7 co-main event. Mir is a two-time champion and still one of the most all-rounded big men in mixed martial arts. Cormier though is undefeated and has quickly added striking and submissions to his Olympic level wrestling for a lethal MMA combination. UFC vs. Strikeforce aside, of all the former Srtikeforce fighters making their Octagon debut, Daniel Cormier might be the most anticipated of them all.
Overall the UFC on FOX 7 main card is a treat for any MMA fan because it is something they would have never seen if Strikeforce was actually still around. Nevertheless the fact that there are four UFC guys taking on four Strikeforce guys on a UFC main card airing on FOX has us excited. The result of this excitement can be seen below in a little bit of creative fun.
