Jorge Masvidal Returns To Strikeforce

Recently, it was announced that Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (20-6) will be making his return to the cage next month under the Strikeforce banner. Masvidal made a name for himself through when he was featured in a homemade video in which he fought Kimbo Slice protégé “Ray”. That video has since garnered nearly three-quarters of a millions views.

In returning to Strikeforce for the first time since 2008, Masvidal will take on undefeated prospect Billy Evangelista (11-0-1). In his previous stints with the company, “Gamebred” picked up two victories: a TKO over Matt Lee at Strikeforce: Playboy Mansion and a Unanimous Decision Ryan Healy at Strikeforce: At The Dome. Unfortunately he is coming off a decision loss to Paul “Semtex” Daley (26-9-2) in September of 2010; a fight at Welterweight in which he took on two week’s notice.

In a Press Release sent out earlier in the week, his manager, Tina Vidal, was quoted as saying, “Masvidal knows what it takes to be champion and I believe the world will be surprised by how quickly he proves that in Strikeforce.  He knows what takes to win.  He’s a dedicated fighter with a passion for fighting that combines natural raw talent and heart.

The fans won’t have to wait long for Jorge Masvidal to show what he can do. He will face off against Billy Evangelista at Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson on Saturday, March 5th inside the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Also on the card: Tim Kennedy vs. Melvin Manhoef, Marloes Coenen vs. Miesha Tate for the Women’s Welterweight Championship and Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante vs. Dan Henderson for the Light Heavyweight Championship.
